Big Bear Polar Plunge rescheduled to Saturday, April 22

The 2023 Polar Plunge has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 22!

Thank you for your generous support of Special Olympics! All registrations and donations will be carried over to the Plunge in April. We hope that everyone can join us, but if you cannot, you can allow all funds you raised and/or donated to remain a donation to benefit Special Olympics athletes throughout the Inland Empire or you may request a refund by contacting Victoria Tracey at or 562-502-1115. Please contact Abbey Leffler at with any questions.

Run, walk, or dance into the chilly waters of Big Bear Lake to raise funds for Special Olympics Inland Empire. For just a minimum of $50, you can participate in the coolest event of 2023 – the Polar Plunge. Not only will you brave the cold waters, but you’ll have the opportunity to earn incentives, party with friends, and be freezin’ for a reason: to help support Special Olympics.

Ways To Participate
Join a team, take the Plunge solo, or support the cause as a spectator. The are so many ways to participate in this wacky, fun event supporting persons with intellectual disabilities.

Register as a solo Plunger and create a fundraising page to collect donations online.
Too chicken to plunge? Support the cause with donations while you keep your feet on dry land.
Start or Join a Team and fundraise on the team page.

Support a Plunger – Want to support a friend? Make a donation.
Raise more than $50 for the opportunity to earn fun prizes! The more you raise, the more you can earn.

Whether you’re plunging or supporting Southern California Special Olympics from the shore, you’re invited to enjoy the Family Fun area with law enforcement booths, a rock wall for the kids (dependent on weather), a silent auction and raffle, and much more! You can also donate an item to the silent auction or raffle.

Registration for the Plunge begins at 10 AM at Veteran’s Park located at 40870 Big Bear Blvd
Opening Ceremonies begin at 11:45 AM with the Plunge to begin immediately after.

How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar raised through the Polar Plunge will help fund Special Olympics Inland Empire programs in your community. Special Olympics is more than a sports organization, our athletes are twice as healthy as non-participating people with intellectual disabilities.

We also offer free health screenings, nutrition and wellness programs, and leadership opportunities for our athletes. Special Olympics Health is made possible by a generous gift from Tom Golisano and Golisano Foundation.

“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
The Special Olympics Athlete’s Oath
All Special Olympics programs are free to the athletes and their families. When people with and without intellectual disabilities connect on the sports field, hearts and minds are opened and barriers are broken down.
