Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off blazes onto scene Sat., July 15, 2017
Enjoy Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off bands, beer, chili, outhouse races and more…
Scarf down that stomach sunscreen you Chiliheads cause you’ve got a date with the Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off. Blazing onto the scene with a 10 a.m. spicy time on Sat., July 15, 2017, the Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off will take place in the Bartlett Street Parking Lot in the heart of the Big Bear Lake Village. The world-class Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off contestants prepare red chili; chili verde and homemade salsa for judging.
So, masticate your Mylanta; pack your Pepcid or take your Tums and enjoy a new epoch of lip-smacking-good chili, live bands, beer, dancing, DJs, a Miss Chili Pepper contest, outhouse races, a shoot n’ holler contest, vendors, treats and so, so, much more. Produced by the Big Bear Old Miners Association, the annual Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off is free to attend; however, for the chili enthusiast there’s a $5 tasting kit fee so you can indulge in the great bowls of fire.
With band listening, beer drinking and chili tasting in high gear by midday, the annual outhouse races begin at 1 p.m. During this bloodthirsty battle of mobile bathrooms, the driver is mounted on a porcelain throne inside an actual outhouse on wheels—and it must contain the appropriate paperwork—as fleet-footed teams push these high speed porta-potties forward to traverse a truly treacherous course. The championship team is awarded the highly coveted Golden Outhouse Trophy. There is also a People’s Choice Award for “Best Decorated Outhouse.”
